APC Disowns Ogun Governorship Hopeful, Reaffirms Adeola as 2027 Candidate
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned Abayomi Hunye as its 2027 Ogun State governorship candidate, affirming Senator Solomon Adeola as the legitimate choice. Hunye, currently suspended for anti-party activities, is challenging the primary election in court while maintaining his bid. The party warns against associating with Hunye under the APC banner.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned Abayomi Hunye as its candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, insisting that Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, remains the party’s recognised candidate.
APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru made the position clear in a statement released on Monday in Abuja, describing Hunye as an impostor and saying he had been suspended from the party.
APC says Hunye was suspended
Basiru said Hunye was suspended from the APC on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area.
The suspension was later ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee and communicated to the party’s national headquarters. According to Basiru, Hunye was accused of actions considered harmful to the party’s image, anti-party activities and conduct capable of creating division among members.
The national secretary therefore rejected Hunye’s recent claim that he is the APC’s governorship candidate, calling the declaration unauthorised and misleading.
Party backs Senator Adeola
The APC said a validly conducted primary produced Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan as its candidate for the 2027 Ogun governorship election, with Balogun Abiodun as his running mate.
The party also said the names and details of both candidates had been uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal, with the commission issuing acknowledgement slips.
The APC warned individuals and organisations against conducting political activities with Hunye while presenting themselves as representatives of the party.
It said anyone who associates or conducts political business with him in the name of the APC would be doing so at their own risk.
Hunye challenges the primary
Despite the party's position, Hunye has continued to contest Adeola's emergence.
He is challenging the APC's consensus governorship primary in a suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja and maintains that he remains in the 2027 race.
Hunye has also announced Abayomi Odunowo, a former fellow aspirant and political associate, as his preferred running mate.
The dispute now leaves the APC facing an internal legal and political battle over who will ultimately represent the party in Ogun State in 2027.
