Published 13 hours ago2 minute read

A woman was rescued by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command on Friday afternoon after she attempted to jump into the lagoon from Carter Bridge.

According to a statement released by the RRS on its official X account, the incident occurred around 12:20 p.m. while officers were conducting a routine patrol of the area. The woman was observed walking toward the edge of the bridge before she was swiftly intercepted by the officers.

The police said she was taken to the RRS headquarters where she was received by the Commander, CSP Shola Jejeloye.

The woman was allowed to speak privately with her husband and their 30-year-old son in an effort to resolve what the police described as a family matter.

“Afterwards, CSP Jejeloye counseled the woman extensively and offered her a cash gift,” the statement noted. “The family expressed their appreciation for the prompt intervention and the support provided.”

The police said the woman has been released into the custody of her husband and son.

Authorities have not disclosed further details about the circumstances leading to the incident, but emphasized the importance of timely intervention and mental health support.

The RRS reiterated its commitment to routine patrols and rapid response to emergencies, especially those involving vulnerable individuals.
