Last year, VeryDarkMan was  on five counts of cyberstalking, following petitions filed by actresses Iyabo Ojo, Tonto Dikeh, and music producer Samuel Oguachuba (Samklef).

One of the charges alleged that the defendant posted videos on his Instagram handle containing information that was “grossly offensive, pornographic or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character”.

In another charge, the defendant was said to have alleged that Ojo was having an indecent sexual relationship with her daughter.

Police claimed that the defendant alleged that Dikeh “is behind the gossip blog Gistlover”.

However, the social media celebrity pleaded not guilty to all the charges and was  on June 10, 2024.

On Thursday, VeryDarkMan appeared before Musa Liman, the presiding judge, and again pleaded not guilty to all charges.

His lawyer Deji Adeyanju requested that the court allow his client to continue under the previously granted bail terms by Mobolaji Olajuwon, a judge of a sister court.

The prosecution, led by Victor Okoye, representing the inspector-general of police, did not oppose the bail application.

The judge approved the request and adjourned the case to July 24, 2025, for the commencement of trial.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has revealed that VeryDarkMan will be formally arraigned once charges are finalised.

In an interview with News Central, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson, clarified that the agency is still preparing charges against the 31-year-old social critic.

“Now, I think we should appreciate that the Economic and Financial Crime Commission has the right to initiate an investigation into any petition raised against any Nigerian. Now, the issue of Martin Vincent Otse is not an exception. He is a suspect like every other suspect. Now, we have cause to invite him, arrest him on multiple petitions before the commission. And of course, we have invited and interrogated him,” he said.

“We offered him bail conditions. And when he met the conditions, we released him. When his charges are ready, we would file the charges before the court, and he will be arraigned. There are no charges yet. There are processes and procedures.

“Let us get to the river before we cross it now. By the time the charges are ready, they are filed before the court, and he is arraigned, it will be a public document, and everybody will see it. There is no point in preempting.”

When asked whether the agency is with VeryDarkMan’s mobile phone, Oyewale responded: “That is not a matter to be discussed on national television.”
