Thomson Reuters and Imperial College London have forged a significant five-year partnership to establish a joint ‘Frontier AI Research Lab’. It will delve into agentic AI systems, reasoning, planning, and human-in-the-loop workflows. Professor Alessandra Russo, who will co-lead the lab alongside Dr Schwarz and Professor Felix Steffek, highlighted that dedicated infrastructure and resources would empower researchers to deliver scientific advances with practical relevance, ensuring breakthroughs translate into meaningful societal benefits by strengthening society, energizing traditional industries, and creating new economic roles.

Recognizing that AI risks extend beyond technicalities to include significant legal and economic dimensions, the lab's steering committee includes Professor Felix Steffek, a Professor of Law at the University of Cambridge. Professor Steffek articulated the lab’s commitment to bringing together experts from diverse disciplines—including law, ethics, and AI—to advance the potential of legal AI applications while ensuring they are safe and ethically responsible.
