Nana Gyan-Apenteng was widely respected as a leading voice in Ghanaian journalism and a champion of cultural heritage. Over the decades, he served in a range of influential roles, most notably as an editor and columnist for The Mirror, where his insightful commentary attracted a devoted following.

He also held the esteemed traditional title of Apagyahene of Tafo Eti in the Eastern Region.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Gyan-Apenteng worked in London as Deputy Editor of West Africa magazine, an influential pan-African publication that offered in-depth political and cultural analysis of the continent during a pivotal time. Upon returning to Ghana in the mid-1990s, he joined the Third World Network, where he led the Communications Unit and edited its monthly journal, Africa Agenda.
