The Vice President, through her lawyer Paul Lawrence Lim, has denied the charges and indicated her intention to post bail to avoid detention, asserting her commitment to exercising all legal remedies. The political entanglement is further complicated by the legacy of her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, who was arrested last year on orders from the International Criminal Court and is set to face trial in The Hague on November 30 for alleged crimes against humanity during his brutal anti-drugs crackdown. While in office, Rodrigo Duterte nurtured close ties with China and Russia, contrasting sharply with President Marcos Jr.'s administration, which has expanded defense engagements with the United States and taken a firm stance against China's aggressive actions in the disputed South China Sea.
