Presidential candidate Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has publicly released a series of documents detailing the financial status of Anambra State Government accounts at the time of his handover in 2014. This disclosure comes amidst an ongoing and contentious dispute between Obi and the current Anambra State administration regarding the state's financial liabilities post-his tenure.

The documents, which were disseminated by the Kwankwasiyya Movement, a group closely associated with Obi's running mate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, via the social media platform 𝕏, directly address the allegations made by the Anambra State Government. The state government had previously asserted that it is still burdened by the repayment of debts inherited from past administrations, specifically naming those of Peter Obi and Willie Obiano.

Peter Obi vehemently rejected these claims, presenting his official handover documents as conclusive evidence to refute the accusation that his administration left Anambra State with outstanding debts. These documents reportedly contain specific details of the state’s bank balances at the precise moment Obi relinquished his office.

In response to the released documentation, the Kwankwasiyya Movement emphasized the clarity and authenticity of the bank balances displayed in the records. The movement urged the Nigerian public to conduct independent verification of the information, highlighting the meticulous details within the documents. A post by the group on 𝕏 explicitly stated, “Look at those bank balances very well. The bank officials signed them with their full names and positions clearly written on them.” The group further lauded Obi's transparency, proclaiming, “Wow! Go and verify. May Peter Obi happen to Nigeria. What a man.”
