Peter Kraus engaged to Hana Ostapchuk years after Bachelorette heartbreak - NewsBreak

Peter Kraus, best known as the runner-up from Rachel Lindsay's season of The Bachelorette, is officially engaged.

The 40-year-old personal trainer proposed to his girlfriend, Hana Ostapchuk, 34, and shared the news on Instagram Friday, July 4, along with photos from the engagement.

"Throughout it all, it was always you. I just had to find you. I love you," Kraus wrote. "Words cannot express the love and happiness we feel. Last night was truly magical and only possible because of an amazing support system of incredible people in our lives! We are so thankful."

He added: "Thank you Marge and Jim for sharing your home. Thank you @jenniferrayephoto for the incredible photos. And thank you Mom, Dad, Jack, Lori, and Andy for giving us your blessings and love! We are ENGAGED!!"

Kraus has been dating Ostapchuk since 2024. Their relationship marks a new chapter for Kraus, who gained national attention during The Bachelorette season 13 in 2017.

At the time, he made it to the final two but ultimately left the show after a tense breakup with Rachel Lindsay. Lindsay went on to accept a proposal from Bryan Abasolo.

During the breakup episode, Kraus told Lindsay to "go find someone to have a mediocre life with," a line that sparked headlines and fan backlash. Kraus later reflected on that moment during a May appearance on the Almost Famous podcast.

"I think I felt that I knew in that moment that I could provide a very healthy, happy relationship with this person. Whether that was true or not, I can't tell you. But in that moment, it's what I felt," he said. "The relationship that I had built with her to that point seemed like it would be a lot of fun to be in after that time."

He also addressed his infamous comment: "I did say those words, which I won't even repeat because I think they're really gross," Kraus said. "And I tried to apologize for it, but that only means so much when it's in front of millions of people and you're already hurt and feeling betrayed, I'm sure, by someone who could say that to you."

Lindsay, now 40, has acknowledged the way her breakup with Kraus often overshadowed her engagement. "For me, the reason there was so much emotion [in the finale] was because that was closure for me, that was it," she told Us Weekly in 2018. "And I really haven't talked to him because I don't have anything else to say. From what I hear, he's doing well too."

Lindsay and Abasolo married in 2019. In January 2024, it was confirmed they had filed for divorce. The split was finalized one year later.

"I was very surprised when I saw that it happened. I was very sad by the fact that so many people were championing the fact that it did happen," he said on the podcast. "I figured if they were able to make it through all that hardship that they experienced after the show - because it seemed like so many people turned on them, and there's so much dramatization of the downfall of their relationship prior to it even not succeeding - I figured if they can make it through that, they can make it through anything."
