PDP Fires Back: Insecurity Worsens, Opposition Slams Tinubu's 'Insufficient' Response

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vehemently criticized President Bola Tinubu’s cancellation of planned foreign trips to South Africa and Angola, labeling it a mere “media stunt” and the latest, boldest example of “tokenism.” According to Comrade Ini Ememobong, the national publicity secretary, this decision, while appearing sympathetic to the Maga schoolgirls kidnapping and the escalating insecurity across Nigeria, particularly in the northern regions, is nothing more than a perfunctory gesture lacking substantive action.

To counter this perception, the PDP has issued a direct challenge to the APC-led Presidency: President Tinubu must temporarily relocate to Kebbi State and other active theatres of armed conflict in Northern Nigeria. The party argues that such a move would not only galvanize security agencies to address the ongoing carnage more decisively but would also significantly boost the morale of troops on the frontlines. This, they contend, is a critical demonstration of leadership.

The PDP spokesman further emphasized that as President and Commander-in-Chief, Tinubu should not remain in the comfort of the Presidential Villa while 25 schoolgirls remain abducted and their whereabouts unknown. True leaders, the party asserts, demonstrate leadership by leading from the front during moments of grave national challenge. The recent attacks in Kwara State were cited as further evidence that insecurity and fear have become the daily reality for Nigerians nationwide.

Despite this worsening situation, the PDP accused the APC-led administration of issuing “outright denials, rationalised explanations, empty assurances, and other superficial gestures” like the President’s cancelled trip. They warned that without immediate and strategic actions, the trip cancellation would amount to nothing more than a media stunt designed to curry public favor and sympathy, rather than genuinely confronting the urgent task of securing lives and property across Nigeria.

Drawing a stark contrast, the PDP suggested that if the situation were a political crisis, such as the Rivers State case, President Tinubu would deploy all available strategies and resources, within and outside the law, to find a solution. The party put the President and his administration on notice, declaring that Nigerians are exhausted with symbolic gestures like sympathy statements and trip cancellations. What the nation urgently requires, they stressed, is decisive leadership, strategic action, and effective support for the security forces, especially those on the front lines, rather than cosmetic efforts aimed at scoring political points.

In conclusion, the PDP affirmed that the safety of Nigerians cannot be reduced to mere theatrics, demanding that leadership transcend optics and deliver tangible, consistent action to restore public confidence and protect lives and property. The party’s message was unequivocal: the current situation demands seriousness, not symbolism, and the Presidency must rise to the occasion or make way for those who can.
