PDP Convention in Jeopardy as National Secretary Alleges Signature Forgery

The scheduled National Elective Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), set for November 15, is now in serious jeopardy following explosive allegations of signature forgery made by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu. According to The Guardian Nigeria, Anyanwu an ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the alleged forgery.
In his formal petition dated October 15, 2025, for the DSS and INEC, and October 16, 2025, for the police, Anyanwu claimed that his signature was forged on official PDP communications. He specifically denied signing the August 25, 2025, letter that notified INEC of the Ibadan Convention scheduled for November 15–16. Party rules stipulate that such correspondence must bear the joint signatures of both the National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, and the National Secretary.
In his petition to INEC, titled “RE: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Year 2025 Elective National Convention: Petition Against Forgery and Cloning of My Signature,” Anyanwu described the discovery as shocking and criminal. He urged INEC to investigate the “cloning” of his signature and prosecute those involved. He attached excerpts of the allegedly forged document to the petition as evidence.
Similar complaints were filed with the DSS and IGP, where Anyanwu demanded the arrest and prosecution of all implicated individuals. He referenced the forged documen; letter Ref. No. PDP/DOM/GF.2/Vol. 1M/25-140, dated August 25, 2025 which he insists he neither signed nor authorized. The petitions highlight growing tensions within PDP’s top hierarchy and hint at possible internal sabotage.
The forgery scandal adds to the ongoing internal crisis within the PDP, marked by deep divisions between allies of Nyesom Wike and other National Working Committee (NWC) members. Disputes over South-South zonal leadership and state congresses in Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Plateau continue to destabilize the party ahead of the convention, according to Channels Television.
Compounding the turmoil, Imo PDP chairman Hon. Austin Nwachukwu and Abia chairman Hon. Amah Nnana have filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to halt the upcoming convention. The case, before Justice James Omotosho, is set for hearing on October 20. Meanwhile, internal disagreements persist as the PDP’s NWC disowned its Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), and replaced him with Chief Chris Uche, though Ajibade maintains his claim as the party’s legitimate legal representative.
Further deepening the division, both the National Chairman, Ambassador Damagum, and Senator Anyanwu have reportedly sent conflicting letters to INEC regarding the convention’s legality and organization. Attempts by journalists from Nigerian Tribune to reach the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, for comment were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
