Patient dies in ambulance accident

Udupi: A senior citizen being rushed to a hospital for treatment died after the ambulance he was travelling in crashed into a road divider near MGM College in Udupi. The deceased is Anwar Saheb, 75.In his complaint, SM Nayaz from Koteshwara village, Kundapur, said the accident took place when he was taking his father — who was suffering from a respiratory illness — from their home to a hospital in Manipal in an ambulance along with his mother Irshad Banu, and uncle Shahabajan. Ambulance driver Ayub allegedly drove negligently and recklessly and crashed into the road divider on Udupi-Manipal road in front of the college at 9.45pm. Because of the collision, Anwar Saheb sustained a head injury and was immediately admitted to the hospital in Manipal. However, he passed away in the early hours of Saturday. The complainant's uncle, Shahabajan sustained a shoulder injury and was treated at the hospital. A case has been registered at the Udupi traffic police under sections 281, 125(a), and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
