Last week, Panathinaikos secured a crucial win on the road against Monaco, a result that locked them into third place in the standings and guaranteed home-court advantage in the EuroLeague quarterfinals. If Fenerbahce loses to Bayern a day earlier, Ergin Ataman’s team would have the chance to climb to second position with a win here. Still, it’s unclear how much they’ll truly care about that, as coach Ataman has consistently emphasized that being in the top 4 is what matters most and he isn’t overly concerned about who they’ll face in the playoffs.

More important than playoff seeding is the current form of their top players. Kendrick Nunn was absolutely monstrous against Monaco, dropping 37 points. Juancho Hernangomez has been consistently solid, and Cedi Osman has occasionally reminded everyone why he spent years in the NBA. Heading into the season’s final stretch, expectations are rising for Kostas Sloukas and Lorenzo Brown, two players known for saving their best for April and May. There’s also a chance that Mathias Lessort could return sometime this month, which would be a massive boost for Panathinaikos’ title ambitions.

Crvena Zvezda suffered a heartbreaking loss to Anadolu Efes last round in front of their home fans. They erased a big deficit in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter, forced overtime, and then saw Codi Miller-McIntyre missed a game-winner at the buzzer. Still, thanks to Milano’s loss to Virtus, the red-and-whites secured a play-in spot. But that won’t mean much if they fail to reach the playoffs. Their chances of advancing would be significantly higher if they can pull off a win in Athens. Otherwise, they’ll likely finish 10th.

Even though Miller-McIntyre missed the biggest shot of the game against Anadolu Efes, his overall form has been on the rise, which is a good sign for Crvena Zvezda. Filip Petrusev has been the team’s most important offensive player all season, and when he’s on his game, good things usually follow for the reigning ABA League champions. One major reason for their losses in the past two rounds has been their inability to hit open threes. If they’re going to beat Panathinaikos, that’s the area they’ll need to drastically improve come Friday night.

Panathinaikos defeated Crvena Zvezda by 81-77 on the road earlier this season. That marked their sixth consecutive win in head-to-head matchups.

Mathias Lessort and Marius Grigonis are out for Panathinaikos. Joel Bolomboy, Mike Daum, and Luka Mitrovic will miss the game for Crvena Zvezda, while Milos Teodosic is questionable.

Crvena Zvezda has pulled off some massive road wins in the EuroLeague this season, beating teams like Olympiacos, Monaco, Fenerbahce, Partizan, Paris, and Barcelona. That proves what they’re capable of when their defense clicks and their outside shooting follows. Panathinaikos has already secured its primary goal for the regular season, and their motivation here could be questionable. In a game with much higher stakes for the visitors, Crvena Zvezda may be able to capitalize because this is a crucial matchup for them in the battle for playoff positioning.
