NDLEA Drug Busts: Lagos Airport, Fuel Tanker, and Other Arrests

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reported several arrests and drug seizures across Nigeria between May 6 and May 10. Operatives intercepted a fuel truck along the Suleja-Kaduna road in Niger, discovering a hidden storage containing 246 bags of skunk, a strain of cannabis, weighing 3,047 kilograms. Four suspects, Christopher Onyema, 47; Benedict Etineruba Young, 54; Chukwudi Ujue Jerry, 30; and Mohammed Abdullahi Danasabe, were arrested in connection with this seizure.

At Port Harcourt International Airport, Ihensekhien Obehi was apprehended for allegedly attempting to export cocaine concealed in her private part, stomach, and the false bottom of her handbag. She was about to board a Qatar airline flight to Iran via Doha when authorities discovered three wraps of cocaine in her private part and two large parcels hidden in her handbag. Obehi had also swallowed 67 pellets of cocaine. The total weight of the concealed drugs was 2.523 kilograms.

In a separate incident at Lagos International Airport, Campbell Slifer, a 22-year-old British national, was arrested with two suitcases allegedly containing cannabis.

In Lagos, Eze Chekube Emmanuel and Ike Samuel Chinyerem were arrested with 109,914 pills of tramadol, swinol, and nitrozepam at Oja Amukoko in Ijora. Other arrests were made in Niger, Kaduna, and Kwara states.

In Kaduna State, Lukman Sabo Umar, 23, and Tukur Ammadu, 20, were arrested with 52.5kg of skunk in a bus at Gwantu, Sanga LGA. In Kwara State, Rufai Nasiru was apprehended along the Bode Saadu-Jebba expressway with 45,400 pills of tramadol 225mg. In Bauchi, Isaac Onogure and Ikechukwu Peter were arrested while attempting to transport 526 blocks of skunk weighing 505kg along the Bauchi-Gombe road.

Additionally, 1.1kg of Loud consignment concealed in a pillow coming from Thailand was intercepted at a courier company in Lagos. In Kano, Hafizu Isa Uman, 34, and Ismail Shehu, 48, were arrested during a raid on their hideout in Rijiyar Zaki, where 31 kegs containing 775 litres of codeine syrup were recovered.
