Ioannis Sfairopoulos shared his first impressions after Crvena Zvezda’s victory over Olympiacos in the 30th round of the EuroLeague.
Sfairopoulos began by praising Dejan Davidovac:
“Certainly, our key to a good start was to attack Fall from the outside through Davidovac. We didn’t panic when Olympiacos closed the gap. It was important that all players contributed. We had good ball movement and patience. We maintained the rhythm through our shots in the final seconds. Focus brought us the victory. We followed the game plan. Davidovac can play multiple positions.”

On the battle of big men:
“We played very smart against Olympiacos’ big men. They had lineups with players who could shoot from the outside. We pulled them out of the paint. In defense, we didn’t trap Fall and didn’t allow the other players to get into a rhythm. That was the best plan to remain competitive today, especially in difficult conditions and with a deficit in the high positions.
It’s always nice to return to Greece and Olympiacos. I spent seven seasons here. The club recognizes those who worked hard here. Many thought we had fallen after two losses. We can win the next four games, but we don’t have to. What’s important is that we stay together and not be flat. I’m looking for mental stability. We must take each game individually.”
On the specifics of the Olympiacos vs. Crvena Zvezda duel:
“It’s hard to keep the players focused. Even though there’s closeness between the clubs, both teams want to win. We lowered our heads and the difference in our game was visible. In the end, the team has players with character who can make a difference. The whole team worked hard on defense. Brown and Kalinic had to play the center position. In tough moments, you need players with personality,” said Ioannis Sfairopoulos.
Olympiacos remains the leader of the EuroLeague standings with a 22-8 record, while Crvena zvezda is currently in seventh place with 17 wins and 13 losses.
