Palace guards injured, police vehicle vandalised as 'hoodlums' attack Sanusi's palace

The protracted tussle rocking the Kano emirate appeared to have been re-ignited on Sunday as loyalists of the 15th emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, allegedly unleashed mayhem on Kofar-Kudu palace of the 16th emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The ugly incident ensued when Emir Bayero and his large entourage were returning from his Mandawori. Several guards at Sanusi’s palace were said to have sustained injuries and a police vehicle stationed at the entrance of the palace reportedly smashed.

A statement, issued by the Kano Emirate Media Team, and signed by Sadam Yakasai, disclosed that the attack was carried out when Emir Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II was out of the palace.

According to Yakasai, “They broke the gate and attacked the guards, injured some of them. They smashed the police vehicles in the Palace. Aminu deliberately passed through the emir’s palace road instead of taking the proper route from Koki to Nasarawa and his hoodlums decided to attack Gidan Rumfa.”

“This is not the first time he would pass through the area. He had done that previously after his visit to his Mandawari residence. He did that to intimidate the people of the area,” Yakasai further alleged.

He insisted that the 15th emir, after his deposition by the Kano State government, had relocated and taken over Nasarawa mini palace, “thereby trespassing without caution.”

Efforts to get a reaction at Nasarawa mini palace were futile, as the spokesperson to the 15th emir, Abubakar Kofar-Naisa, did not pick up or return the calls placed to him.

But an eyewitness, Muktar Dahiru, faulted Yakasai, insisting that the incident was rather a clash between those he described as ‘unknown miscreants’ at Kofar-Kudu palace and supporters of Bayero.

Dahiru, who was part of the Bayero’s team, explained that the crisis started when ‘unknown miscreants’ brandished dangerous weapons and mounted barricades to prevent the 15th emir from passing through Kofar-Kudu on siting his entourage. Efforts to enquire about the development from the police command were unsuccessful.

HOWEVER, former Vice President, Muhammad Namadi Sambo, has commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for declaring a state of emergency on education in Kano State.

The commendation was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, yesterday.Sambo, who was on a condolence visit to mourn renowned business mogul and elder statesman, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, expressed admiration for the administration’s commitment to infrastructural renewal.

“As an architect, I am particularly passionate about the ongoing rehabilitation and beautification of the Kano Government House.
“I was very happy and have been looking forward to the opportunity to commend you in person,” Sambo was quoted as saying.

He described the governor’s efforts as “giant strides,” adding that the infrastructural transformation under the Yusuf-led administration is evident across Kano.

“Mr Governor, you are doing well,” the former Vice President added, noting: “I have been following the news, and on my arrival to Kano, I noticed the impressive infrastructural development everywhere. You have effectively turned the Government House into a construction site.”

Governor Yusuf thanked Sambo for his visit and words of encouragement, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to restoring Kano’s glory through purposeful governance and people-oriented projects.
