Paige Bueckers Sends Message to Former UConn Teammate After New Post
It has been quite the spring for the UConn's women's basketball team. After a historic run which saw them finish with a record of 37-3 and a national title, the Huskies have continued to make headlines.
Paige Bueckers, as expected, was the top pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. She was selected by the Dallas Wings and is poised to become an instant sensation for the franchise.
Her teammate, Azzi Fudd, announced that she would return to UConn for her senior season. Many projected Fudd to be a high draft pick had she declared.
Although Fudd was not eligible for the draft, she still attended the WNBA Draft on Monday to support her friend and teammate.
She posted a few photos from the WNBA draft after the event.
"Popped out at the WNBA draft," posted Fudd.
Bueckers then responded to the post, sending a heartfelt note to Fudd.
"Popped OFF," Bueckers said with heart eyes emoji.
The 5-foot-11 guard from Virginia was outstanding all season for the Huskies, and continued during the NCAA Tournament.
Fudd scored 19 points in UConn’s dominant 85-51 victory over UCLA in the Final Four. Just two days later, in the national championship game, she logged 38 minutes and poured in 24 points.
Over the course of the season, Fudd averaged 13.6 points per game. It was a strong bounce-back year after she missed most of her junior season with a torn ACL, an injury she sustained during practice.
At this point, everyone in the women’s basketball community is familiar with Paige Bueckers and her dominance at the collegiate level. She appeared in 123 games during her UConn career.
Her best scoring season came in 2023–24, when she averaged 21.9 points per game.
