Pacquiao still draws support from celebrities, public officials

LAS VEGAS – Manny Pacquiao is back in the limelight.

And so are high-profile personalities who travelled from Manila all they here to the Entertainment Capital of the World to see the legendary Filipino fighter make his boxing comeback at the MGM Grand against welterweight champion Mario Barrios.

Among the early birds spotted around the glitzy city on the week of the fight card included Philippine Olympic Committee President Bambol Tolentino and POC secretary-general Atty. Wharton Chan, former congressman and Pacquiao supporter Monico Puentebella, Senator Jinggoy Estrada, and former senator and action star Bong Revilla.

On the eve of the fight, among those who came in included children of President Bongbong Marcos, former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson, movie star Cesar Montano, Bro. Eddie Villanueva, and MPBL Commissioner Kenneth Duremdes.

Also around were former Barangay Ginebra assistant coach and PBA champion Rino Salazar and his wife Rose, both of whom have been based in Vegas for a decade now.

At 46, Pacquiao came out of a four-year retirement to challenge the 30-year-old Barrios for the World Boxing Council welterweight championship.

The Philippine boxing icon was recently inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and is the only fighter to be an eighth-time world division champion.
