Boneless skinless chicken breasts are a weeknight staple for many reasons—they’re quick to cook, easy to dress up, and even please picky eaters. But because this white meat is on the dinner table so often, it’s also easy to fall into a recipe rut. Which is why a delicious new take on this protein is always so popular. One of our most recent variations, Creamy Garlic Chicken, is our most saved dinner of June 2025, and has more than 4,000 saves on MyRecipes.
Made with boneless skinless chicken breasts, basic pantry staples (flour, Italian seasoning, olive oil, butter), lots of garlic, and a few other ingredients, this meal is inexpensive and easy, but packs a lot of bang for your buck. The star of the dish is the silky pan sauce that you make in the same skillet that you use to brown the chicken.

While 10 whole garlic cloves and 2 minced cloves might give you pause, trust us on this one. The garlic is cooked in butter until golden brown, then simmered in a mixture of chicken stock, Italian seasoning, and a dash of white wine vinegar. Heavy cream is added in the end to give the sauce richness and body, and then the cooked chicken is added back to the skillet until it is warmed through. The cloves should be golden, tender, and more sweet than pungent, similar to when they are roasted.

The recipe calls for the chicken pieces to be cut in half horizontally, which ensures that they cook quickly and evenly. Don’t be tempted to keep the breasts whole, because the dish will take longer to prepare.
The creamy garlic sauce is so flavorful, you won’t want to waste a drop of it. Serve the chicken over cooked rice, mashed potatoes, couscous, or grits, then spoon the sauce on top. Crusty bread is another good option for mopping up every last tasty bit.
