Osimhen Unleashes Galatasaray Milestone, Ends Goal Drought in Thrilling Win!

Nigerian goal machine Victor Osimhen has emphatically ended his post-AFCON drought, roaring back into form as Turkish giants Galatasaray tightened their grip at the top of the Super Lig. The Super Eagles striker finally broke his frustrating goal drought since AFCON 2025, firing Galatasaray to a commanding 3-1 victory over struggling Fatih Karagumruk at the Atatürk Olimpiyat Stadı on Friday night, a win that also saw him become the fastest player to reach 50 goals in the club’s history.

The match began with a bang, courtesy of Brazilian maestro Gabriel Sara, who nearly stole the show before Osimhen had even touched the ball. Sara took just 31 seconds to rip Karagumruk apart, smashing home the fastest goal of the 2025/26 season after punishing a mistake from the home side playing out from defence. Karagumruk managed to find a brief equalizer in the 27th minute, with Kalayci curling a fine shot into the top corner after a quick counter-attack led by Serginho, marking their only effort on target before the break.

Galatasaray reasserted control after half-time, and Gabriel Sara was instrumental once more. Six minutes into the second half, the midfielder doubled Galatasaray's advantage with a sublime finish from Roland Sallai's pinpoint delivery, leaving Karagumruk chasing shadows and making it 2-1.

However, all eyes remained on Nigeria's number nine, Osimhen. Having been starving for a goal since returning from Morocco, where he agonisingly missed out on the Golden Boot, the hunger and frustration were palpable. That changed in the 55th minute when İlkay Gündoğan, with trademark German precision, sliced open the Karagümruk defence with a needle-sharp pass. Osimhen controlled the cross with his chest inside the box, then muscled his marker aside like a man possessed, thundering a trademark drive past helpless keeper Ivo Grbic into the roof of the net. The celebration was a clear expression of relief, passion, and a stark warning to the rest of Europe that the Nigerian battering ram is firing again.

This powerful strike was not just a goal; it was a historic moment. Osimhen’s 50th goal for Galatasaray came in just 59 appearances, solidifying his status as the fastest player to reach this milestone in the club’s illustrious history and confirming his growing importance to the team. Although Karagumruk grabbed a late consolation to briefly make it 2-1, Osimhen's strike had already sucked the life out of their comeback hopes, putting the result beyond doubt.

The victory keeps Galatasaray top of the Super Lig table with 46 points, maintaining a four-point lead over second-placed Fenerbahçe. Osimhen's latest goal brings his tally to seven league goals this season and 13 in all competitions from 18 appearances. Last season, he played a key role in Galatasaray winning both the Super Lig title and the Turkish Cup, scoring 37 goals in 41 games. Once again, he proved his ability to deliver on the biggest nights, looking razor-sharp ahead of crucial Champions League clashes. Meanwhile, Fatih Karagumruk remain bottom of the standings with just nine points from 19 matches, seven points from safety and sinking fast.
