Osimhen's Future Unclear as Galatasaray and European Giants Battle for Star Striker
Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman is reportedly open to joining Galatasaray for the 2026/27 season, with Victor Osimhen actively encouraging the move. While a powerful attacking partnership excites fans, the transfer hinges on Galatasaray reaching an agreement with Atlético Madrid, who may be reluctant to sell.
Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman is reportedly considering a move to Turkish champions Galatasaray for the upcoming 2026/27 season, following efforts by fellow Nigerian star Victor Osimhen to persuade him. Galatasaray, fresh off securing their fourth consecutive Süper Lig title and a record-extending 26th league crown in the 2025/26 campaign, is actively exploring a transfer for Lookman amidst uncertainty surrounding his future at Atlético Madrid.
Despite Lookman having only joined Atlético Madrid during the 2026 winter transfer window, reports indicate that the Spanish club might entertain offers for the winger. Turkish rivals Fenerbahçe, who previously attempted to sign Lookman before his move to Spain, are also said to maintain an interest. Interestingly, Victor Osimhen, who is himself a transfer target for Atlético, has personally engaged with his international teammate, urging him to prioritize Galatasaray over other potential destinations. This comes after Galatasaray reportedly turned down a substantial offer from Atlético Madrid for Osimhen.
According to reports by Aspor, Lookman, 27, is not opposed to relocating to Istanbul and forming a formidable attacking partnership with Osimhen. However, the Nigerian international has set a clear prerequisite for any transfer: Galatasaray must first secure an agreement with Atlético Madrid. Lookman, who stands at 1.74 meters and is contracted to Atlético until 2030, conveyed a direct message to Galatasaray's hierarchy: “Reach an agreement with my club.” This response has been interpreted as a positive indication for Galatasaray, which is now assessing the financial viability of a deal for a player currently valued at approximately €40 million.
The prospect of Lookman and Osimhen uniting at Galatasaray is generating considerable excitement, promising one of the most dynamic attacking combinations in Turkish football. Their established strong understanding from their time with the Nigerian national team, where their movement and link-up play have consistently posed problems for opposition defenses, suggests a seamless transition to club level. Tactically, Lookman's exceptional pace, dribbling prowess, and creativity from wide areas would perfectly complement Osimhen's robust physical presence, aerial strength, and clinical finishing inside the penalty box. Such a partnership would offer head coach Okan Buruk enhanced tactical flexibility, whether deploying both forwards or utilizing Lookman on the left flank in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Despite the optimism surrounding the potential move, significant hurdles remain. Atlético Madrid invested heavily to acquire Lookman and may be hesitant to release him so soon, particularly as their attacking department is expected to undergo major changes. Antoine Griezmann has already concluded his tenure with Diego Simeone's squad, and Julian Alvarez is reportedly attracting interest from Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Arsenal. Ultimately, Galatasaray's pursuit hinges on its ability to convince Atlético Madrid to enter negotiations, with Lookman making it clear that the door is open, provided the clubs can first find common ground.
