Oseni Challenges Obi: Where's the 2027 Blueprint for Nigeria?

Arise Television anchor, Rufai Oseni, has publicly criticised Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) 2027 presidential candidate, demanding that he present Nigerians with clear and actionable plans to address the nation's pressing challenges. Oseni voiced his concerns during a Monday review of Obi’s recent television interview, where he questioned the former Anambra State governor's approach to outlining solutions for major national problems.

Oseni stressed that the Nigerian populace cannot afford to elect leaders based on vague promises without a clear understanding of the proposed implementation strategies. He asserted that all presidential aspirants must detail the methodology behind their solutions, rather than merely enumerating the problems Nigeria faces. “I didn’t see how. We can’t run a country on vibes,” Oseni remarked, highlighting the need for substance over rhetoric.

Specifically, Oseni challenged Obi and other candidates to provide concrete strategies for tackling insecurity. He clarified that while candidates are not expected to disclose sensitive operational details that could compromise security, they must explain the broader policy direction and framework they intend to adopt if elected. “We will fix insecurity. How? And please, people should stop telling us, ‘I don’t want to share my operational details,’” he stated, arguing that candidates, while lacking operational details, should articulate overarching methodologies.

Furthermore, Oseni expressed significant concern over the perceived absence of a comprehensive manifesto or policy blueprint from candidates. He urged that Nigerians must have the opportunity to scrutinise the ideas of presidential aspirants well in advance of the 2027 election. The debate, he insisted, needs to shift focus from personalities and political popularity to the feasibility and workability of the proposed policies.

Given Nigeria's severe challenges, Oseni warned against experimenting with ambiguous promises and reiterated his call for Obi to articulate precise ideas on how his administration would address insecurity and other critical national issues. These comments come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general election, with key opposition figures, including Obi, actively positioning themselves for the presidential contest. Oseni had previously warned the NDC and Obi that he would subject their policies and programmes to rigorous scrutiny, maintaining that political momentum alone is insufficient to persuade Nigerians, and that a robust plan for economic and social challenges is essential.
