Operating in Crisis: IOM 2024 Annual Report - World | ReliefWeb

Published 20 hours ago1 minute read

In 2024, global humanitarian needs reached record highs, with over 300 million people, including migrants, internally displaced people, refugees, and affected communities, requiring assistance due to conflict, climate shocks, and economic collapse. The war in Gaza displaced nearly the entire population of the Gaza Strip, while internal conflicts in Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Afghanistan, and Haiti caused mass suffering and displacement. In the Horn of Africa, droughts and floods forced millions of people into acute need. Meanwhile, the ongoing war in Ukraine and other protracted crises further strained limited resources. The Operating in Crisis Report highlights IOM’s critical interventions and demonstrates the extraordinary power of solidarity and human resilience. It showcases the Organization's tireless efforts to bring hope, relief, and long-term solutions by applying a humanitarian-development-peace nexus approach which puts people at the heart of response.
