Open Thread: A beautiful tribute to Gregg Popovich
I spent the last two days working twelve hour shifts at La Semana Alegre, a music festival associated with Fiesta. Missing the last twelve hours of Spurs news is like living under a rock for a month.
Three days ago the Spurs gathered to honor Stephon Castle, the recipient of this year’s NBA Rookie of the Year award.
The gathering brought together David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Victor Wembanyama, Mitch Johnson, R. C. Buford, De’Aaron Fox, Keldon Johnson, Riley Minix, Brian Wright, Castle’s family, and a practice facility for of Spurs employees,
One noticeable absence was Gregg Popovich.
Yesterday, after twenty-nine season, Pop retired.
The Spurs released this video.
Without a word of dialogue, the Spurs said it all.
“Thank you, Coach Pop. We look forward to our next chapter together” — the only words in print in the video. But the images are an appropriate tribute to the man whose left an indelible imprint on the sport of basketball.
