So far this season, Olympiacos has fully lived up to expectations. They have assembled arguably the most complete roster in the competition, and despite dealing with injuries, they have managed to separate themselves at the top of the standings. With a 21-7 record, they hold a two-game advantage over second-placed Fenerbahce. Heading into this matchup, they dominated Partizan with an 82-70 victory, at one point leading by as many as 20 points.

When Olympiacos increased their budget by seven million euros compared to last season—allocating 5.5 million specifically for Sasha Vezenkov and Evan Fournier—many were skeptical about how well this move would work. The result? Vezenkov is once again the frontrunner for the MVP award and is likely to secure it, while Fournier has delivered clutch performances, directly sealing victories for his team. Nikola Milutinov and Moustapha Fall are finally healthy, and with both on the court, Olympiacos presents problems for any opponent on both ends of the floor. Add to that a group of exceptional role players who embrace responsibility and consistently hit key shots, and you get a complete team—one of the top contenders for the EuroLeague title.

As the reigning EuroLeague champions, Panathinaikos has been performing solidly, especially considering that one of their most important players, Mathias Lessort, suffered a broken leg and has been sidelined for some time. It wouldn’t be surprising if he missed the remainder of the season. Currently sitting third in the standings with an 18-10 record, their main objective is to secure a top-four finish to ensure home-court advantage in the playoffs.

Head coach Ergin Ataman, known for his psychological tactics, started his mind games five days before this matchup by declaring that Olympiacos is the best team in Europe—an obvious attempt to fire up his players. Speaking of motivation, there is no shortage of it for Kostas Sloukas, who spent a significant part of his career with Olympiacos but didn’t part ways on the best terms. Kendrick Nunn is also among the elite players in Europe and will relish the challenge of competing with Vezenkov for MVP honors. Panathinaikos’ biggest issue right now is Lessort’s absence, which led to the acquisitions of Wenyen Gabriel and Tibor Pleiss. However, the key question remains: can they compete in the paint well enough to challenge Olympiacos?
