Olivia Dean Conquers U.K. Charts: 'The Art of Loving' Is 2026's First No. 1 Album!

Olivia Dean has kicked off the new year with a significant achievement, as her album “The Art of Loving” was crowned the U.K.’s first No. 1 album of 2026 on December 2. The LP, initially released in September 2025, ascended to the top spot on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart after the festive period concluded, a time when records from artists like Kylie Minogue and Michael Bublé typically dominated the charts. This latest chart eligibility period spanned from December 26 to January 1, solidifying Dean's album’s position.
This marks Dean's third non-consecutive week at the summit with “The Art of Loving,” which first debuted at No. 1 upon its release and secured a second week at the top in early December. In addition to her album success, Olivia Dean also boasts an impressive four songs within the top 20 of the Official Singles Chart, highlighting her widespread appeal and breakout success.
Elsewhere on the charts, Sabrina Carpenter's album “Man’s Best Friend” climbed two spots to No. 2. This rise followed the release of a new bonus track, “Such a Funny Way,” on December 24. The track, previously available only on physical editions, was released for streaming as a 'thank you' to fans for a successful year. Carpenter's 2024 album “Short n’ Sweet” also saw a significant jump, moving five spots to No. 6.
Taylor Swift's album “The Life of a Showgirl” demonstrated remarkable staying power, holding its position at No. 3 as the new year began. Released in October, this LP was credited with playing a crucial role in boosting the U.K.’s recorded music market to unprecedented highs in 2025. Rounding out the top five were classic compilations: Fleetwood Mac’s “50 Years – Don’t Stop” at No. 4 and The Weeknd’s “The Highlights” at No. 5.
The post-holiday chart shake-up also benefited several modern classics. Billie Eilish's “Hit Me Hard and Soft” reached No. 20, Olivia Rodrigo’s “Guts” landed at No. 22 and “Sour” at No. 25, while Charli xcx’s “Brat” secured the No. 31 spot, all seeing renewed interest and climbing positions following the end of the holiday season.
