Olamide Baddo Crowns Wizkid 'Greatest Afrobeats Artist' After Fela Kuti!

Ace Nigerian rapper Olamide Gbenga Adedeji, widely recognized as Olamide Baddo, has made a significant declaration regarding the hierarchy of Afrobeats artists. During a recent press conference held in Canada, Olamide hailed Grammy-winning singer Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, famously known as Wizkid, as the greatest Afrobeats artist to emerge after the legendary Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
Olamide's declaration came as he reflected on his numerous collaborations with Wizkid throughout their careers. He explicitly stated, “I am blessed to have collaborated with Wizkid on multiple occasions. You know, Wizkid is the greatest Afrobeats artist ever after Fela.” He further elaborated that his musical partnerships with Wizkid transcend mere leverage, emphasizing that their joint efforts are founded on a deep sense of musical harmony and shared creativity, rather than just strategic advantage.
This statement adds to an ongoing discourse within the Nigerian music scene regarding the title of the greatest Afrobeats artist. It is recalled that Nigerian superstar Burna Boy had previously proclaimed himself to be the most incredible African artist following Fela. Similarly, fellow prominent artist Davido has consistently referred to himself as the “King of Afrobeats,” indicating a vibrant and competitive landscape among the genre's top talents.
