The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered a probe after journalists and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were allegedly locked out of the Government House during the Supreme Court victory celebrations held on July 11, 2025.

The incident, which occurred on July 11, 2025, sparked criticism.

In a press release, the governor expressed regret over the incident, describing it as unacceptable and inconsistent with his leadership style.

Okpebholo said he values the media and his supporters, and that the exclusion of guests and supporters was unauthorised.

Okpebholo stated that he has constituted a small investigative committee to identify those involved in the incident and assured the public that anyone found culpable would face disciplinary action.

The governor, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary Fred Itua, reiterated his commitment to openness, inclusion, and respect for every stakeholder.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering an atmosphere of unity and transparency, assuring all supporters and stakeholders of their valued place in the journey to rebuild and reposition Edo State.

“This decision did not originate from me, nor does it reflect my values. I will never knowingly authorise any action that disrespects our supporters or members of the press. As a governor elected by the people, I remain committed to openness, inclusion, and respect for every stakeholder, “he stated.
