Okonjo-Iweala, Abiodun, others pay tributes to Buhari
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation and former Former Federal Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, among others, have paid their tribute to former President Muhammadu Buhari following the announcement of his death.
Buhari passed away on Sunday in London after a long illness. His death was announced in a statement from the presidential adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday.
The president also asked Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to the United Kingdom to bring back the body of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in London on Sunday.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, in a tweet on X, wrote, “Unbelievable! I did not know just how ill HE President Buhari was and minutes after sending my get well wishes I have just learned that he passed away. I am so very sad. May the Soul of HE @MBuhari rest in perfect peace. My deepest condolences to the entire Buhari family and his close aides and associates.”
Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun State, wrote “President Buhari was a gallant soldier, a patriot, and a statesman whose leadership—both as a military Head of State and as a two-term civilian president—was marked by a strong emphasis on discipline, accountability, and national development.
Abiodun added, “He was known for his integrity, simplicity, and unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s progress. His achievements, particularly in the area of infrastructure, continue to speak volumes. As someone with deep affection for Ogun State, he was always excited to support and commission key projects in our administration.”
Rauf Aregbesola, former governor of Osun State and minister of the Interior, in his farewell to the late president, wrote “Buhari a leader who served Nigeria with deep conviction and unwavering principle. His commitment to integrity and national unity defined his public service.
“Nigeria has lost a statesman who believed deeply in our potential as one nation. We have gained the enduring example of a leader who remained true to his values.”
Senator Bala A. Mohammed wrote, “President Buhari was a great leader who served Nigeria with commitment and a deep sense of duty. His contributions to national development and his steadfastness in leadership will be remembered.”
Femi Fani-Kayode, former Minister of Tourism, wrote, “A great and proud son of Nigeria has passed on today. May the soul of President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR rest in peace. :pray:”
