Officials urge Reno to hydrate, seek cool spaces during heatwave

Published 11 hours ago2 minute read

Reno residents are advised to prepare for a multi-day heatwave as the National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Heat Advisory, effective from 11 a.m. Sunday to 11 a.m. Wednesday. Forecasters warn of dangerously high temperatures, with the mercury expected to climb into the range of 95 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

The National Weather Service and local health officials emphasize several key strategies to beat the heat:

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water, even if you don't feel thirsty. Avoid sugary drinks, alcohol, and excessive caffeine, as these can lead to dehydration.

Seek Air-Conditioned Spaces: Spend as much time as possible in air-conditioned environments. If your home lacks air conditioning, consider visiting public cooling centers, libraries, or shopping malls during the hottest parts of the day.

Reach out to elderly family members, neighbors, and friends who may be more susceptible to heat-related illnesses, especially if they live alone or do not have air conditioning.

For those looking to escape the heat with a refreshing dip, Reno offers several public pools:

2925 Apollo Way, Reno

240 W. Moana Lane, Reno

1805 Idlewild Drive, Reno

1600 Carville Drive, Reno

115 W 6th Ave, Sun Valley

1301 Valley Road, Reno
