Obi's 2027 Presidential Bid Ignites Amidst Fiery Drama!

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially endorsed former Anambra state governor, Peter Obi, as its presidential candidate for the forthcoming 2027 general elections. This significant development follows Obi's uncontested emergence as the sole aspirant for the NDC presidential ticket during the primary election, which took place on Friday, May 29, 2026. The formal ratification ceremony was conducted at a special convention convened for the affirmation of the party's presidential candidate in Abuja.

During the convention, the motion to affirm Peter Obi's candidacy was put forward by Senator Victor Umeh, who represents the Anambra Central senatorial district. This motion was subsequently seconded by Ovie Omo-Agege, a former deputy president of the Senate, ensuring a clear consensus within the party. Following the successful affirmation, the party's flag was ceremoniously presented to Peter Obi by the NDC National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, who is also a former governor of Bayelsa state, alongside the party's national chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe.

However, the special convention was marked by a brief but notable disruption concerning the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). A mild drama unfolded due to the initial absence of INEC officials, who are crucial observers for such proceedings. NDC officials at the convention initially requested Buba Galadima, a prominent party chieftain and veteran politician, to oversee that specific part of the program. When invited, representatives of INEC failed to appear in their designated seats, leading to repeated calls without a response. While some attendees suggested proceeding with the affirmation regardless, Galadima and other party leaders firmly insisted that the presence of the electoral umpire's representatives was mandatory before the exercise could continue. Eventually, the INEC officials arrived at the venue, allowing the party to proceed with the formal affirmation of Peter Obi's candidacy without further delay.
