NYSportsJournalism.com - LeBron, Lakers Close NBA Season Atop Sales List

Published 1 month ago2 minute read

The NBA and National Basketball Players Assn. today jointly unveiled the player and team leaders in jersey and merchandise sales for the second half of the 2022-23 regular season.

Due in part to the resurgence of the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James overtook Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors) for No. 1 among jersey sales, a position Curry held during the first half of the season.

James had the No. 1 spot since figures released at the end of the 2018-19 season showed him having the best-selling jersey in his first season with the Lakers prior to Curry overtaking him earlier this season.

Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics was No. 3 after not being among the Top 15 during the first half of the season. Teammate Jaylen Brown was No. 14.

The Lakers, Warriors and Celtics also placed as the Top Three teams in NBA merchandise sales.

Results are based on NBAStore.com sales.

Sales figures were not disclosed.

The Top Five among jersey sales also includes Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks) and Luka Doncic (Dallas Mavericks).

The Top Five among team merchandise sales also includes the Phoenix Suns — led by the arrival of Kevin Durant via a trade with the Brooklyn Nets — and Milwaukee Bucks.

Durant’s Suns jersey was No. 6 in sales during second half of the regular season; his Nets jersey was No. 5 in sales during the first half. Suns teammate Devin Booker was No. 7 during the second half of the season.

In another trade scenario, Kyrie Irving’s Mavericks jersey was No. 10 in sales during the second half of the season following his trade from the Nets, where his jersey was No. 15 in sales during the first half of the season.
