In its first national media push since becoming the official QSR partner of USA Basketball, Burger King will be the presenting sponsor for the USA Basketball Selection Show, which will unveil the 12-man roster that will represent America at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
NBA-TV will exclusively televise the USA Basketball Selection Show presented by Burger King on Saturday, July 7 (7 PM ET).
Among the top players vying for spots on the Olympic roster are LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Love and Russell Westbrook
The hour-long program will include interviews with select players, head coach Mike Krzyzewski and Jerry Colangelo, chairman of USA Basketball. Following the USA Basketball Selection Show presented by Burger King, NBA-TV will air the USA Basketball press conference from the Wynn Las Vegas.
Burger King, which unveiled its alliance with USA Basketball in May, has also introduced five commemorative cups to celebrate USA Basketball’s memorable teams over the last two decades. A 20th anniversary cup honors the 1992 gold medal Dream Team, whose roster included Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Patrick Ewing.
The commemorative cups currently available for free at Burger King locations nationwide with the purchase of any large fountain drink.
Burger King is supporting with a social media-driven sweepstakes via Facebook and Twitter offering such rewards as autographed USA Basketball jerseys and balls as well as Burger King reward cards.
Burger King will also be part of other pre-Olympic events with other USA Basketball partners. Among them, NBA-TV will air NBA Real Training Camp: USA Basketball Presented by Jeep on July 11, which is described as a live behind-the-scenes look at the USA Basketball Men’s National Team’s practice.
NBA-TV will televise the semifinals of the FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament on July 7 and the Finals on July 8.
NBA-TV will also air an exhibition game against Argentina's national team on July 22. The Olympics in London will begin July 27.
According to Alex Macedo, Burger King svp-North America marketing, "We know the passion that America has for USA Basketball."
Other USA Basketball marketing partners include Nike, Gatorade, American Express, Cisco, Tiffany, State Farm, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Right Guard, 24 Hour Fitness, Metro PCS, Got Chocolate Milk? and Only Vegas.
