Title contenders, Rivers United boosted their chances with a crucial 1-0 win over leaders Remo Stars in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) week 32 match played yesterday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port-Harcourt.
Before the match, Remo Stars who are gunning for their first-ever NPFL title were leading the table with 60 points with Rivers United trailing in second position with 52 points.
However, Tolu Sholumade scored the only goal in the 84th minute for Rivers United to cut Remo Stars lead to five points, igniting hopes of the ‘Pride of Rivers’ to overtake the Ikenne side in case of more future slips.
Elsewhere, Nasarawa United stormed out of the relegation waters with an emphatic 2-0 victory over 10-man Akwa United in Lafia.
In Aba, Joseph Atule was the hero again as Enyimba rallied back to beat city rivals Abia Warriors 2-1. Tornadoes also returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over El-Kanemi Warriors, Kwara United forced Plateau United to a 1-1 draw in Jos, Bayelsa United forced Katsina United to a 1-1 in Katsina just as Lobi Stars fought back to draw 1-1 against visiting Sunshine Stars with a former junior international, JohnMark Aule, scoring his first-ever NPFL goal.
Meanwhile, debutants Ikorodu City forced 3SC to a 0-0 draw in the last match of the day at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
