Police Deny Boko Haram Arrests in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has officially denied recent reports claiming the apprehension of thousands of suspected Boko Haram members within the state. The denial follows a statement attributed to Kumar Sanda, a commander of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Lagos, alleging the arrest of a significant number of Boko Haram suspects.
According to a statement released by police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, immediately ordered an investigation into the CJTF's claims. The investigation found no evidence to support the reported arrests or the presence of Boko Haram elements in the mentioned locations.
"Furthermore, in the trailer park communities mentioned, the leaders, operators, and drivers in the indicated places in the report clarified to the police that there were no such elements of Boko Haram seen or arrested in those localities," Hundeyin stated.
The police deployed surveillance teams, the State Intelligence Department (SID), and other units to verify the claims. However, no confirmation of the reported arrests or the presence of Boko Haram members was found.
"Therefore, the report in its entirety is false, malicious, and ill-intended to cause fear and apprehension in the minds of the public," Hundeyin asserted. He urged residents to remain calm and carry on with their daily activities without fear, while also cautioning the media to verify information before publication.
The police command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Lagos residents, encouraging the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the provided control center number.
