Singer 'Portable' Arrested for Alleged Criminal Defamation

The Kwara State Police Command has apprehended Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, widely recognized as 'Portable,' a popular singer, on charges of alleged criminal defamation and related offenses. According to DAILY POST, the arrest was executed on Saturday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, by officers of the command, acting on a petition submitted by Okunola Saheed, known publicly as 'Osupa.' This information was released in a statement on Sunday by the command's spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, in Ilorin, the state capital.

The statement explicitly noted, 'The Kwara State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that following a petition received from Mr. Okunola Saheed, popularly known as ‘Osupa,’ against Mr. Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, also known in the entertainment industry as ‘Portable’… Police detectives of Kwara Command have taken lawful steps in line with due process to investigate the allegations.'

The allegations against Portable are substantial, encompassing criminal defamation, threats to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and the use of abusive and insulting language. Given the gravity of these accusations and the evidence provided, the Command secured an arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin.

Acting on the warrant, operatives from the Command proceeded to Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday, April 13th, 2025, where the suspect was apprehended around 19:25hrs. He was immediately transported to Ilorin for further investigation. Upon arrival, Portable’s statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both parties. He remains in custody, and arrangements are underway to present him in court without delay.

The state police command has reaffirmed its dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice is served fairly and transparently. They urge the public to remain calm and avoid disseminating unverified information.
