The Governor of Gombe State, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, on Monday, April 8, received the symbolic National Unity Torch for the 2025 National Sports Festival (NSF) billed to be held next month in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Manasseh Daniel Jatau, Gombe State reaffirmed its commitment to full participation in the upcoming sports festival.

Speaking during a brief but colorful ceremony at the Government House, Jatau recalled the remarkable performance of a Gombe born athlete during the last edition of the festival held in Asaba, Delta State, assuring that Gombe will present an even stronger and better-prepared contingent this year.

He noted that beyond the competitive spirit, Gombe State remains committed to promoting national unity, describing the NSF as a vital platform for fostering peace, integration, and youth talent development across Nigeria.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Adamu Inuwa Pantami, expressed optimism about the state’s prospects at the festival, disclosing that Gombe will participate in all 24 registered sporting events.

On his part, Mrs. Mbora Ikana, leader of the Unity Torch team from the National Sports Commission (NSC), emphasised the symbolic significance of the torch, describing it as a beacon of peace and unity.

The NSF is widely regarded as Nigeria’s version of the Olympics, promoting grassroots sports and fostering unity among the country’s diverse regions.
