Nontsetselo Magongo: Meet the ninth wife who accompanied King Mswati III to Ghana
Nontsetselo Magongo is the ninth wife of King Mswati III
Nontsetselo Magongo was the only wife who accompanied King Mswati III of Eswatini during his recent state visit to Ghana to discuss pressing issues on the African continent.
Born in 1985, Magongo is 40 years old and is the king’s ninth wife. They married in 2002 when she was just 18, marking the beginning of their marital journey.
She hails from Eswatini and has Portuguese ancestry through family ties to Mozambique, giving her a mixed Swazi-Portuguese heritage.
Magongo is the mother of Prince Mcwasho Dlamini, her only child with the king since their marriage.
Her official title is Inkhosikati LaMagongo, which means "queen from the Magongo clan."
She was one of several royal wives but was specifically selected to accompany the monarch on this official visit.
Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland, was renamed in 2018 to distinguish it from Switzerland and to preserve the nation's unique cultural identity.
