Nollywood's New Record Holder: Funke Akindele's 'Behind The Scenes' Shatters Box Office with ₦1.1bn Milestone!

Funke Akindele's latest cinematic endeavor, “Behind The Scenes,” has achieved a monumental box office milestone, surging past the ₦1.1 billion mark at the Nigerian box office. This remarkable feat was accomplished in a record-breaking 17 days following its cinema release, officially establishing it as the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025 so far. FilmOne Entertainment, the film's distributor, confirmed this groundbreaking achievement, stating that “Behind The Scenes” has grossed a total of ₦1,109,463,846 since its theatrical debut, positioning it among Nigeria’s most commercially successful films.
FilmOne Entertainment lauded the achievement as historic, highlighting that the film is now the fastest movie in West Africa to cross the ₦1 billion benchmark. Additionally, “Behind The Scenes” recorded the highest single-day box office gross ever on Boxing Day, pulling in an impressive ₦129.5 million. The distributor reiterated that the film maintains strong momentum weeks after its nationwide cinema debut and is currently the highest-grossing theatrical release of 2025.
This success further solidifies Funke Akindele's unprecedented dominance in Nollywood. According to FilmOne, she is now the only director to cross ₦1B+ at the box office three different times and holds the title of Nollywood’s highest-grossing producer of all time. Akindele has also become the first filmmaker to deliver three consecutive ₦1B+ films in one calendar year, an unparalleled record in the industry. Her previous 10-figure hits include “A Tribe Called Judah” (2023) and “Everybody Loves Jenifa” (2024), with “Behind The Scenes” joining this elite list.
Prior to reaching the ₦1 billion milestone, “Behind The Scenes” had already set multiple records. The film grossed ₦512 million within its first 12 days in cinemas, making it the highest-grossing Nollywood title of 2025 at that time and earning the distinction of the biggest opening weekend of 2025. The film held advanced screenings on December 10 and 11 before its official nationwide release on December 12, rapidly crossing the ₦200 million mark and continuing its steady ascent at the box office.
Reacting to these exceptional milestones, Funke Akindele conveyed her profound gratitude to her supporters, stating, “Over the years, I’ve always valued my fans, because without God and you, I am nobody. Thank you all for coming out to watch this movie and for supporting my brand through the years.”
