Nollywood's 'Black Market' Premiere Shatters Guinness World Record with Massive Lagos Turnout

Nollywood has achieved a historic milestone with the film "Black Market" setting a Guinness World Record for the most-attended single-location film screening in global history. On Saturday, September 26, 2026, over 51,000 moviegoers converged at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos for the premiere, surpassing the previous record of 43,624 attendees set by the Filipino film "Felix Manalo" in 2015. This monumental outdoor event attracted a diverse audience, including political dignitaries and prominent screen stars, marking a significant moment for Nigerian cinema.

Among the key figures celebrating this success was actress and executive co-producer Omowunmi Dada, who stars as Adesua in the film's lead trio. For such a momentous occasion, Omowunmi Dada made a striking appearance, meticulously styled by Creative Director Kingsley Okoye Rex. Her ensemble featured high-waisted charcoal-black trousers crafted from textured woven fabric, adorned with subtle horizontal weave lines and tiny cut-out details, creating a relaxed silhouette that cascaded towards her black pointed-toe patent heels.

Complementing the trousers, Omowunmi wore a custom-made cropped turquoise-blue top, distinguished by its wide square lines, structured shoulder pads, and fitted balloon sleeves. The design was further enhanced with black geometric patches and raw contrast stitching on the bodice and sleeves, giving the top a graphic and eye-catching finish. Her accessories maintained a sleek and structured aesthetic, including a black crocodile-embossed YSL envelope clutch, slim rectangular rimless sunglasses with gold accents, a gold wristwatch, and statement rings. A honey-blonde bob, styled with a soft side part, completed her fresh and celebratory look, reflecting the magnitude of the evening.

The "Black Market" premiere drew an impressive list of attendees, including Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture Toke Benson. The film's expansive cast, including Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman (playing Zimuzo), Scarlet Gomez (as Aramide), Lateef Adedimeji, Uzor Arukwe, Ibrahim Yekini (Itele D Icon), Susan Pwajok, Teniola Aladese, Taye Arimoro, Mike Afolarin, Tomiwa Tegbe, Andrew Yaw Bunting, Shamz Garuba, and Adeoluwa Akintoba, were also present to witness the record-breaking turnout.

Directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay in her feature directorial debut and co-written with Abdul Tijani-Ahmed, "Black Market" is a compelling crime thriller. The narrative centers on market women involved in a cross-border fuel-smuggling operation whose lives take a perilous turn when a rival gang intervenes. The film was produced by Nora Awolowo through Rixel Studios, in collaboration with Signet Ring Studios, Switch Visuals Production, and FilmOne Studios. Following its historic premiere, "Black Market" is now gearing up for its nationwide theatrical release, promising to bring this record-setting cinematic experience to a wider audience across the country.
