Funke Akindele's Jaw-Dropping Snub of Toyin Abraham Ignites A Fierce Feud

A tense moment at Iyabo Ojo's Return of Arinze movie premiere on Sunday, March 29, has reignited public debate over the long-strained relationship between Nollywood actresses Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham.

A widely circulated video captures Toyin Abraham approaching a table where Funke Akindele sat alongside Iyabo Ojo, Mercy Aigbe, and William Benson, gently touching Funke and addressing her as "Aunty Funke."

Funke responded by deliberately looking away, offering no acknowledgement whatsoever. While Iyabo Ojo and Mercy Aigbe warmly returned Toyin's greeting, Funke's pointed snub left Toyin visibly embarrassed, prompting her to quickly walk away from the table.

The viral video triggered a wave of mixed reactions across social media, with netizens divided over whether Funke's behaviour was justified or simply unprofessional.

Adding further weight to the growing tension, Toyin Abraham has since unfollowed Funke Akindele on Instagram, a development that intensified speculation about the depth of their renewed rift and signalled that this may be more than a fleeting misunderstanding.

The incident revives memories of a rivalry that defined much of their careers as leading actresses and producers in the Yoruba film industry, particularly through fierce competition over film releases and box office performance.

Though the two appeared to have reconciled in 2023, this latest public confrontation suggests old tensions may have resurfaced.

Some commentators have linked Funke's apparent grudge to a past incident in which Toyin Abraham reportedly sided with veteran filmmaker Kunle Afolayan's criticism of Funke, a perceived betrayal that, for some, explains the cold reception at what should have been a celebratory evening.
