Noah Kahan's 'The Great Divide' Conquers Australian Charts, Debuts at No. 1

Noah Kahan has united a nation as his latest offering, "The Great Divide," debuted at the coveted No. 1 position on the ARIA Chart. This marks Kahan's fourth studio collection and his second consecutive chart-topping album in Australia, following the three-week reign of "Stick Season" earlier in 2024. Australian fans can look forward to rewarding performances when "The Great Divide Tour" makes stops at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena and Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena for a total of eight concerts across September and October.
Meanwhile, rock legends Foo Fighters secured another podium finish with "Your Favorite Toy," which unwrapped its debut ARIA Chart position at No. 3. This achievement adds to the band's remarkable record, as all 12 of their studio albums have landed in the ARIA Top 10. Eight of these have gone all the way to No. 1, including "One By One" (2002), "In Your Honor" (2005), "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace" (2007), "Wasting Light" (2011), "Sonic Highways" (2014), "Concrete And Gold" (2017), "Medicine At Midnight" (2021), and their most recent record, "But Here We Are" (2023). The Rock Hall-inducted band also claimed the top spot in 2009 with their "Greatest Hits" compilation.
Homegrown metal stalwarts The Amity Affliction also made a strong entry, landing at No. 4 with their ninth studio album, "House of Cards." This marks their eighth consecutive Top 10 appearance for the Gympie, Queensland rockers, building on a history of successful releases such as "Youngbloods" (No. 6 in 2010), "Chasing Ghosts" (No. 1 in 2012), "Let The Ocean Take Me" (No. 1 in 2014), "This Could Be The Heartbreak" (No. 1 in 2016), "Misery" (No. 1 in 2018), "Everyone Loves You…Once You Leave Them" (No. 2 in 2020), and "Not Without My Ghost" (No. 2 in 2023).
Further impacting the latest charts, published on Friday, May 1, is the soundtrack from the new Michael Jackson biopic, "Michael: Songs From The Motion Picture," which moonwalked its way to No. 17. This marks the late King of Pop’s 24th solo appearance on the ARIA Top 50, a legacy that dates back to 1973’s "Music And Me." His impressive tally includes previous chart leaders like "Off The Wall" (1979), "Thriller" (1983), "Dangerous" (1991), "HIStory: Past, Present And Future, Book I" (1995), "Invincible" (2001), and "The Essential Michael Jackson" (2005).
Other new album releases also made their mark on the Top 50. Kehlani’s self-titled effort arrived closely behind at No. 18. New entries from Masayoshi Takanaka with "Takanaka Super Live 2025 Black Ship in L.A." at No. 22, Ruby Fields’ "Small Achievements" at No. 29, Nessa Barrett’s "Jesus Loves a Primadonna" at No. 41, and Pink Floyd’s "Live From The Los Angeles Sports Arena, April 26th, 1975" at No. 43 further diversified the chart landscape.
On the ARIA Singles Chart, Olivia Dean and Sam Fender’s collaboration "Rein Me In" achieved its third non-consecutive week at No. 1. This track holds its lead ahead of Dean’s former chart-topper "Man I Need," which remains at No. 2, while Ella Langley’s "Choosin’ Texas" surged from No. 8 to No. 3, securing a new peak position.
