'No soldiers, just police' at Ablekuma North election re-run - BusinessGhana
In a press release, the Accra Regional Police Command confirmed the deployment of personnel to all 19 designated polling stations, with additional measures including traffic control and strategic barriers to prevent unauthorised access.
"The public is encouraged to report suspicious activities or individuals to the Police immediately by calling 18555 or 192," stated Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region in a statement.
The assurance came alongside after a Facebook post from Dr. Boamah, who took to Facebook to emphasise that only police would oversee security. “THERE WILL BE NO MILITARY DEPLOYMENT!” he wrote, repeating the phrase for emphasis.
Referencing past election violence—including the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election clashes and the killing of eight citizens during the 2020 polls—he urged Ghanaians to “prioritise citizen safety and security.”
He expressed confidence in the police, stating, “The Ghana Police Service is trained to handle electoral security, and we trust them to do their job.”
