No. 79 Bar & Terrace opens in New York - The Spirits Business
Mixologist Charlotte Voisey will lead the drinks programme at No. 79 Bar & Terrace, a new cocktail bar in the Lower East Side.

Voisey is executive director at the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation (TOTCF).
Hospitality veteran Nur Khan is behind the venture, following his other NYC venues Wax, Sway, Hiro Ballroom and Rose Bar. To create No. 79, he has partnered with Morry Kalimian of Kalimian Equities, which owns the building.
The drinks list will offer a ‘creative downtown edge’ to classic cocktails, while executive chef Chris Skoda will create a range of bar snacks. Options include ‘elevated’ chicken nuggets, beef hot dogs ‘with fixins’ and skewered snacks.

“The cocktails at No. 79 are designed to be delicious and refreshing, with options for the afternoon that flow into the night,” said Voisey. “Our launch menu skews towards spring/summer with choices that are elegant, food-friendly and varied in flavour combinations to cater to all tastes.”
Speciality cocktails on the menu include a Dry Martini, served with vodka or gin, rosé vermouth and an olive or twist; the LES Spritz, made with Hendrick’s Gin, fresh lemon, apple, mint and Prosecco; and the Banana Daiquiri, which is blend of rum, banana liqueur, fresh lime and Angostura bitters.
“We are excited to open No. 79 Bar & Terrace, which brings an elevated sensibility while maintaining a downtown edge,” said Khan. “Charlotte Voisey has dialled in classic cocktails that she has elevated in subtle, surprisingly delicious ways. I’m also proud that we will be serving the Smoke Show, a creation of mine.
“The wrap-around bar fosters conviviality and the outdoor terrace is perfect for taking in New York City’s incomparable skyline. We are delighted to work with executive chef Chris Skoda, formerly of Sartiano’s, who is creating our culinary programme.”
No. 79 can accommodate 23 guests at a horseshoe-shaped bar, with 50 guests at banquette seating. Craig Shillitto of Cycle Project designed the interiors, which feature custom hangar-style garage doors that ‘blur the line between indoors and out’.
The decor also features black-and-white photography by Sante D’Orazio.
Music will also be a focus, with Khan curating a playlist that pays homage to the Lower East Side and New York City through both classic and contemporary artists. Shane DuShane of NY Wiring Company has created the sound system.
