NNPP Kicks Off 2027 Election Race, Seeks INEC Deadline Extension

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has officially appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a brief extension to allow its aspirants to complete their required documentation. This request is crucial for the timely upload of candidates in preparation for the upcoming 2027 general elections. Dr. Agbo Major, the National Chairman of the NNPP, articulated this appeal during a press conference held on Wednesday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

Dr. Major highlighted the time constraints faced by the party, stating, "We are running against time. We have asked INEC to adjust its schedule in the interest of fairness so we can catch up and present credible candidates." He confirmed that the NNPP had already commenced the process of uploading candidates for various elective positions, following INEC's issuance of the necessary access code for the exercise. This development marks a significant turning point, especially after several months of internal leadership disputes that had impacted the party.

Elaborating on the past challenges, Dr. Major explained that the initial delay in the process was primarily due to bureaucratic complexities within INEC. However, he noted with satisfaction that the commission has since aligned its operations with existing court judgments, allowing the party to move forward. "We gave them the benefit of the doubt. Today they have found their foot and are working in consonance with the coordination of the courts," he affirmed.

In further announcements, the NNPP chairman revealed that the party has successfully restored its 2022 Constitution and manifesto, signaling a return to its foundational principles. An expanded National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting is scheduled to convene in the coming weeks, where key decisions regarding the party's future direction will be ratified. Dr. Major also extended his gratitude to various stakeholders, including the party’s Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam, party members both locally and in the diaspora, and the judiciary, for their unwavering support throughout the recent leadership crisis.

Concluding his address, Dr. Major urged all Nigerians to consider joining the NNPP. He passionately described the party as a united and disciplined political entity, fully prepared and capable of providing credible leadership and effective governance in the highly anticipated 2027 general elections, promising a stable and forward-looking political future for the nation.
