NNPP Federal Lawmakers Quash Defection Rumors

Members of the House of Representatives elected under the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) have emphatically rejected and distanced themselves from widespread rumours alleging their plans to defect to other political parties. These lawmakers, closely associated with the influential Kwankwasiya Movement in Kano State, issued a strong reaffirmation of their complete and unwavering loyalty to the NNPP and its leadership.

During a press conference held in Abuja on Thursday, Hon. Garba Diso, speaking on behalf of the 13 opposition lawmakers, addressed the circulating reports. This clarification came on the same day that two other NNPP lawmakers from Kano State, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin and Hon. Sagir Koki, formally announced their defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the House’s resumed plenary session.

Hon. Diso, while speaking to journalists, dismissed the defection reports as "false and malicious." He highlighted that these claims, which were circulating across various social media platforms and other channels, falsely alleged that “the Kwankwasiya lawmakers” within the Green Chamber were preparing to switch parties. "We wish to categorically debunk these unfounded rumours and urge the general public, our supporters, and well-meaning Nigerians to disregard such misleading claims," Diso stated.

He further attributed these rumours to "political detractors" who are reportedly threatened by the escalating influence, unity, and resilience of the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya family, particularly within Kano State and across Nigeria. The lawmakers clarified that their constitutional responsibilities necessitate constructive engagement with colleagues from various political affiliations in the pursuit of national development. They emphasized that interactions with members of other political parties should not be misinterpreted as disloyalty or an indication of defection, but rather as a reflection of their commitment to bipartisan cooperation aimed at fostering good governance, national unity, and progress for all Nigerians.

The NNPP legislators reiterated their steadfast allegiance to the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya ideology, which they affirmed stands for justice, equity, inclusiveness, and people-centered governance. They declared that "No amount of misinformation or propaganda will shake our faith in the movement or in the leadership." Concluding their statement, they collectively reaffirmed their dedication to promoting effective governance, quality education, accessible healthcare, youth empowerment, and improved living standards for every Nigerian, asserting their firm, united, and loyal stance to the NNPP, the Kwankwasiya Movement, and the people they serve.
