NNPC raises alarm over sabotage, discredit of new leadership

Published 12 hours ago2 minute read

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) on Friday alleged that a coordinated campaign of sabotage is being orchestrated against its new leadership, appointed some months ago by President Bola Tinubu.

The new leadership, headed mainly by technocrats, a development which many stakeholders have insisted would give the company a new leaf have been in the news in recent weeks over allegations by union members and lawmakers.

The company said the attacks are coming a group of both known and anonymous actors, operating from within and outside the organisation.

In a statement on Friday, the company said the syndicate is deliberately spreading false and misleading information in a bid to tarnish the image of its leadership and derail ongoing reforms aimed at transforming NNPC into a transparent, corruption-free and performance-driven energy company.

NNPC Ltd said these individuals and groups are planting fabricated and scandalous reports designed to distract management, misinform the public, and undermine the commitment of its staff and other Nigerians who support reform.

“These are calculated efforts by those who feel threatened by reform, transparency, accountability, and change clear evidence of the lengths to which they will go to obstruct the transformation of Nigeria’s foremost energy institution,” the statement read.

The company warned that it expects a surge in defamatory publications in the coming days and weeks but stressed that it remains undeterred.

“The transformation is underway, and no amount of sabotage will stop it,” the statement said.

NNPC Ltd called on its staff, stakeholders and the general public to remain focused and not be discouraged by the attacks.
