Nnamdi Kanu's Liberty: Governor Otti Promises Imminent Release

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has expressed strong confidence that Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), will soon regain his freedom. Governor Otti made this significant announcement on Friday during a one-day official visit to Abia State by President Bola Tinubu, who was represented by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi. Otti emphasized his ongoing engagement with the President regarding Kanu's release, stating, “I can assure you that I am engaging with Mr President. He is favourably disposed to it, and I am sure that in no distant future, Nnamdi Kanu will regain his freedom.”
The Governor further underscored his assurance by highlighting his decades-long friendship with President Tinubu, describing the President as a man who keeps his word. “Mr President and I have been friends for decades. Whatever he wants to do, he will tell you, and if he will not, he will say so. Having made promises, I am sure he will keep them,” Otti affirmed, reinforcing the weight of his declaration on the President's commitment to the matter.
Speaking on behalf of President Tinubu, Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, used the occasion to appeal to the residents of the South-East to foster unity and maintain peace within the region. Umahi acknowledged the messages conveyed to the President and Governor Otti's comments, stating, “I ask the people of the South-East to unite and come together. As your brother, I have listened to the messages for Mr President and the comments of the governor of Abia State.”
The Minister provided further assurance that regional leaders are actively pursuing a political resolution for Kanu’s situation. “I want to assure Senator Abaribe and Governor Otti that the governors of the South-East are working very seriously. They are exploring a political solution together with our senators, House of Representatives members, and ministers,” Umahi explained. He added that the Federal Government, with the full backing of President Tinubu, is committed to resolving the issue of Nnamdi Kanu through peaceful means. Umahi concluded by expressing confidence in a peaceful resolution, attributing it to the President's affection for the South-East, while also urging citizens to remain law-abiding, appreciative, and recognize the President's dedication to placing the South-East at the heart of national affairs.
