Nkansah Disputes Regional Candidate Strategy for Party Strongholds | News Ghana

His public remarks addressed debates about electoral strategies following the 2024 general elections.

Nkansah specifically disputed suggestions that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could secure the Volta Region as a stronghold merely by fielding a local candidate. “Vote shares may increase, but candidate origin alone cannot establish strongholds,” he stated, referencing historical precedents.

According to Nkansah’s analysis, late President John Atta Mills secured Volta Region support despite hailing from the Central Region, while President Nana Akufo-Addo received strong backing from the Ashanti Region despite his Eastern Region origins. He emphasized that sustained regional loyalty depends on party structures rather than candidate geography.

The former public official concluded that organizational strength outweighs birthplace in maintaining electoral dominance, noting: “Ashanti Region supported Dr. Bawumia in 2024 and will continue supporting NPP candidates with proper base mobilization.”
