Nigerian Troops Neutralize Sokoto Terrorists in Fierce Encounter

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, successfully engaged and neutralised two terrorists during an operation in the Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State. This decisive action, which also led to the recovery of significant arms and equipment, followed credible intelligence received in the early hours of Friday, August 28, 2026.

The intelligence indicated the movement of terrorists who were conveying hundreds of rustled cattle through the Maikujera general area of the LGA. Acting swiftly on this information, troops from Sector 2 moved to intercept the terrorist group. However, as the troops advanced towards the identified area, they encountered an ambush staged by the terrorists.

The Joint Task Force troops responded with superior firepower, effectively fighting through the ambush. During the fierce engagement, two terrorists were neutralised, while the remaining elements were forced to flee into the surrounding bushes. Subsequent exploitation of the area resulted in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles, which had been abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.

Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, confirmed the details of the operation. He added that the rustled cattle dispersed into the surrounding bushes during the intense firefight, and efforts are currently underway in conjunction with local vigilantes to locate and recover the livestock.

The area remains calm and stable following the operation. Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA are maintaining vigilance and continuing to dominate the area, resolute in sustaining operational momentum against terrorist and criminal elements to safeguard lives and property across its operation area and ensure improved security for the populace.
