In a bid to strengthen community policing and tackle insecurity at the grassroots level, the Federal Government, through the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, has constructed a state-of-the-art Smart Divisional Police Headquarters in Akaeze, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The facility was officially commissioned by the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru.

Strategically located between the borders of Abia and Enugu States, the newly built Smart Divisional Police Headquarters in Akaeze aims to address the lingering issues of communal conflict and insecurity that have plagued the area.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mohammed Sheidu, said the project was born out of the urgent need for a modern and responsive policing system capable of swiftly tackling threats—whether from communal tensions, criminal activities, or insurgent threats.

Commissioning the project on behalf of Governor Francis Nwifuru, Ebonyi State Deputy Governor Patricia Obila lauded the Federal Government for choosing such a strategic location, emphasising its importance in addressing the security challenges in the region.

Also present was the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Adaku Uche Anya, who represented the Inspector General of Police. She used the occasion to highlight the pressing needs within the police force, including the rehabilitation of dilapidated facilities and improved welfare for personnel.

The Ebonyi state government is also calling on the Nigerian police trust fund to help in the rehabilitation of damaged and dilapidated police stations and barracks so as to enhance welfare of  officers and their families.
